- British Gas have announced today (24th February, 2011) increased year on year profits of 24 per cent. Their operating profit has grown from £598 million to £742 million.
- "These profit figures are great news for British Gas, but terrible news for the consumer. The company may well attribute much of these profits down to the fact that they have 267,000 new residential customers, but as any British Gas customer knows, they also increased their prices by 7 per cent in December, too, adding £44 to average gas bills and £24 to electricity bills in the process."
- "With prices sky high and the cold winter weather leading to an increase in gas consumption - last year by 11% and electricity by 2% - it's little wonder that many customers are feeling the financial strain and have had to cut back on the amount of energy they use around the home."
- "We urge anyone who is finding it hard to meet the cost of their heating and electricity bills to first of all look at finding a new supplier as headline rates from energy companies can be misleading and not suitable for your individual needs."
- One in three people (33 per cent) reportedly argue with their family about whether to turn the heating on - with a fifth (20 per cent) admitting they get irritated because someone else switches it on before they want to.
- Paydaybank.co.uk offers competitive small cash loans for emergencies, to cover items such as an unexpected or overly expensive heating bill. Typically, you pay back £100 for every £80 you borrow if repaid within 30 days.
